Right rear quarter panel cut out and a new section welded in

New battery tray fitted and welded in

Dents and dings being patched on the driver's side

Nov. 1-4, 2003

A lot of rust in these sections forward of the wheel 

 

Rusty metal cut out....

...and the new metal welded in. 

Body work taken care of all the way around 

...and the new metal welded in.

Time to strip it down

Up on jack stands

Wheels and Bumpers off

And, it begins

Sandblasting and Repainting the Wheels and Bumpers

After sandblasting

Down to the bare metal

Coated with rust-proof non-porous primer

These will never rust again

Top coated with white POR-15

Starting to look good

 

Next, we started stripping everything off the Bus

Took out the seats

Ripped off the old chrome and gaskets

The interior of the sliding door

The inside of the rear lift gate

Rear lift gate

Rear latch

Sliding door window

Driver's side door latch

We made quite a mess!!

Looks like the Bus exploded

We had to take breaks to eat

Each piece taken off was sanded and repainted

All interior problem areas were coated with POR-15

Rusty areas were eliminated

Got the tires put back on - Looks Great!

Doing some major grinding and sanding

After all the grinding and sanding, we gave her one last wash before the paint job

Driving to the paint shop - It was COLD!!

No windows - No seatbelts

Ready to be painted

Sure got uglier before it got prettier
